Neuropsychological Assessment

Each day, we are required to process information, problem solve through various situations, attend to various daily living tasks, relate effectively with others, cope with difficult situations, and complete school/work related activities. If your child is struggling with one or more of these tasks, a comprehensive neuropsychological assessment can provide a window into the underlying cognitive and personality factors at play. Assessment will also help uncover your child’s adaptive strengths that compensate for areas of relative weakness. This information gained through testing procedures aids in the development so your child can better cope with life’s challenges and experience a schooling environment that reflects his or her learning style.

What To Expect

Diagnostic Interview
During this interview, I will meet with you to learn about your concerns for your child. I will ask various questions to understand the history of the problem as well as attempts to rectify it. I will also gather information about your child’s strengths and preferences. This information will be used to generate a custom battery of psychological tests (i.e: behavioral, cognitive, personality, adaptive functioning, neuropsychological) to answer your referral question and provide accompanying recommendations.
Testing / Evaluation
I will meet with your child a few sessions (length of time dependent on your child’s stamina) to complete the testing procedures. Parents and teachers may need to also fill out some rating forms.
Feedback Session
Once all testing is gathered, scored, and analyzed, I will provide you with a detailed report.

Your comprehensive written psychological assessment will include:

IQ results along with accompanying percentiles for overall IQ factor, verbal comprehension, working memory, perceptual reasoning and processing speed.
Results and accompanying percentiles for your child’s achievement test scores.
Executive functioning profile including processing speed, attention (attention shifting, simple and complex attention, impulse control, planning ability and more)
Integrated analysis of your child’s cognitive strengths and weaknesses and the best educational circumstances to learn.
Personality style assessment including emotional distress and coping mechanism preferences.
Analysis of preferred interpersonal relatedness styles.
Differential diagnosis of learning disorder and type (i:e oral fluency disorder, dyslexia, mathematical disorder), executive functioning problem (i:e: ADHD), emotional disorder, or a combination of issues and how they relate to one another.
Recommendations for accommodations designed to provide your child with his or her optimal learning environment.

I will explain the findings and encourage you to ask any questions that come up. Because this assessment is completed privately, it is ultimately your decision which parts of the report to share with your child’s school, physician and/or therapists.
